Mixing your own

Glass or HDPE for anything stored long term. Cheaper plastics react with some concentrates over time, particularly citrus and cinnamon, and will haze or soften.

Give a mix time before you judge it. Most benefit from a week, and cream, custard and tobacco profiles change substantially over two to three. A recipe dismissed on day one is often the same recipe you like a fortnight later.

Mix by weight rather than volume. PG, VG and concentrates all have different densities, so a set of 0.01 g scales produces far more repeatable results than syringes, and it is faster once you are used to it.

Keep notes on every batch. Percentage, steep time and your verdict — without a record you cannot reproduce the good ones or diagnose the bad ones, and DIY becomes guesswork.
