Deck layouts and wicking

Rebuildables reward a methodical approach and punish improvisation. Always check a fresh build on an ohm reader before it goes anywhere near a mod, confirm the reading matches what you intended, and inspect for shorts against the deck or cap before firing.

Wicking is where most builds succeed or fail. Cotton should pass through the coil with light resistance — enough to hold shape, loose enough to draw liquid — and the tails should sit in the wells without being packed down. Too tight starves the coil, too loose floods it.

Single-coil decks have quietly become the default for good reason: they are easier to wick evenly, gentler on battery life, and the flavour on a well-built single mesh or fused clapton is a match for anything dual. Dual builds still make sense for cloud-focused setups with the airflow to support them.

Match wire to intent. Kanthal is forgiving and holds shape for straightforward wattage builds; stainless steel gives you the option of temperature control; nickel and titanium are temperature-control only and should never be run in wattage mode.
