What rebuildables ask of you

Single-coil decks have quietly become the default for good reason: they are easier to wick evenly, gentler on battery life, and the flavour on a well-built single mesh or fused clapton is a match for anything dual. Dual builds still make sense for cloud-focused setups with the airflow to support them.

Match wire to intent. Kanthal is forgiving and holds shape for straightforward wattage builds; stainless steel gives you the option of temperature control; nickel and titanium are temperature-control only and should never be run in wattage mode.

Pulse a new build gently from the centre outwards and comb the coil so it glows evenly. Hot spots are almost always uneven wrap spacing or a loose post screw, and both are far easier to correct before cotton goes in.

Keep a dedicated kit — ceramic tweezers, an ohm reader, small screwdrivers, scissors and spare cotton — in one place. Rebuildables are cheap to run and genuinely rewarding, but only if the tools are to hand when a build needs attention.
